RV Weekend VI June 19-20

We have set the date for the 6th annual Recreational Violence Weekend as June 19th and 20th. We are still looking to hold it at the same place as the last four years…Poplar Grove site at Pymatuning Lake Park in Andover Ohio.

Fee: $15

Confirmed instructors this year:

Kirk lawson

Dan Kanagie

Ken Pfrenger

Chris Thompson

Randal Gustitis (Almost confirmed)

Matt Sparks (again, almost confirmed)

Allen Reed

This year we are focusing on knife and empty hand. Some classes in the works…combat knife throwing, test cutting, Russian knife play, Russian fisticuffs, catch wresting, unarmed defense using highland broadsword principles…more to come soon.

We thought it would be nice for a change to only have to carry a minimal amount of gear, this should make for a different sort of week end and an interesting one as well.

We also want to make sure we have time for some Broadsword League bouts…  hopefully Saturday night.

If there is an interest I would like to run a Irish cudgel class on Friday night or Saturday night.

There are several motels and bed and breakfasts in the area as well as camping including cabins and yurts. I also have an extra house that is as good of a place as any to throw a sleeping bag on the floor and crash. Last year we had a lucky 13 crash in my training area for the night.

Keep an eye on this site for further updates.

5th Annual Recreational Violence Weekend

The official date is set at July 11-12 2009. I am still working on the exact location. Most likely it will be held once again at the Poplar Grove area of Pymatuning State park on Andovover Ohio.

There is a chance it will be held on my property, but since I am in the middle of a move I am not sure if that is going to work out yet. I will keep everyone updated.

Nice line up of instructors this year:

Steve Huff, Kirk Lawson, Allen Reed, Josh Little, Randal Gustitis, Chris Thompson and Ken Pfrenger

Confirmed classes:

Mountain axe, Pole axe, messer, cutlass, Tomahawk and longknife, shasqua..yes 3 axe like classes and possibly 4!

We are still working on some details for the rest of the classes, should be a great time.

Cost:If this is held again at Pymatuning the cost will be $20 for both days if held on my property $10 for both…really the only goal here is to cover expenses and have fun.

Hammering…

…out the date for this years RV Weekend. We want to make sure nothing conflicts with us this time around and give ample time after ISMAC and before Pennsic so folks still have the energy, time and money to make their way to our own little corner of recreational pain.

Weekend wrap up

The weekend is finally far enough passed that I can honestly say I have caught up on my missed sleep enough to want to sit in front of a keyboard for a few minutes…..

Fairly low turnout again this year but that is fine by me…..while it is always nice to have alot of people it is probably more enjoyable to have smaller classes where we get to go over the material in a bit more depth and faster than with big classes. Profit is not really the goal of this event and we did at least break even just like every year past so I am happy with that.

I drank more than I should have and slept less than was wise but at least the Gods of outdoor seminar ruination took it easy on us this year and we missed all the predicted rain….they did send us record high temps but that was nothing that a dip in the adjacent lake between classes could not take care of. I think the weather luck may have had something to do with Chris Thompson not being there…his papercutting tendencies were likely the cause of all of our weather woes.

I want to publically thank all the instructors and participants who came out this year. The classes were great and it seems like everyone had a good time. We’ll do it again next year for sure.
